There are only two possible solutions (as long as the bug itself is not fixed for older Firefox versions):
  • Update your browser as suggested
  • Go back to FlashGot 1.5.5.1 and don't update it.
I'll describe solution #2: You can disable automatic addon updates but I don't recommend it as other addons won't be updated, too. Fortunately there is a better way to disable automatic updates for this addon only: install it globally. Firefox 4.x and later won't update globally installed addons in contrast to versions 3.x and older.

To install it globally: Remove the addon from your browser profile directory (uninstallation via Addon Manager should be the easiest way). Then copy the addon's XPI file into "%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\extensions" (create this dir if it doesn't exist). Note that the name of the xpi file must match the addon's ID, i.e. name it "{19503e42-ca3c-4c27-b1e2-9cdb2170ee34}.xpi", so the full path would be
%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{19503e42-ca3c-4c27-b1e2-9cdb2170ee34}.xpi

Firefox should now find the newly installed addon and ask for permission to use it. Confirm this and you are ready to use the globally installed FlashGot.
