I note you are apparently only on Firefox 17. It is probably worth updating that. The current release is fx19 with fx20 due out any day now. It is in fact unusual Firefox has not auto updated.
If someone is going to try to help you I imagine it would be good to know which sites are affected.
What happens if you use this informactionforum as the only tab open, and have all extensions and plugins disabled ?

- Are you using ESR or deliberatly blocking updates?

- I imagine in the above situation you do not get 100% cpu
- When do you get 100% CPU are you able to suggest simple steps to reproduce this situation
- brief details of the XP machine how many cores and processor speed for example
- what sort of CPU use do you get in a similar situation with NS disabled
